May Food Pantry Collection & Diaper Drive

FOR HCS FAMILY SERVICES / COLLECTING IN MAY

HCS Family Services is a local nonprofit organization serving neighbors in need since 1937. They work to prevent food insecurity and create an improved quality of life for the people they serve. With one in six children in northern Illinois facing hunger, HCS steps in to provide food for over 350 families on a weekly basis. Pre-packed bags of non-perishables, including produce, meat, bread, milk and eggs are distributed at their food pantry locations in Hinsdale and Willowbrook three times each week via drive-thru service.

The HCS Family Services’ Food Rescue Program provides families with nutritious food options making a real difference in the health of the community. It also keeps perfectly good food out of the landfills. Last year volunteers rescued over 900,000 pounds of fresh produce, frozen meats and quality canned and dry goods from area retailers for distribution to their neighbors in need. Retailers include Costco, Jewel, Brookhaven, Mariano’s and Whole Foods, to name a few.

Food Pantry Collection In addition to the Food Rescue Program, HCS also purchases food at the Northern Illinois Food Bank - where every $1.00 donated to HCS, allows them to purchase $8.00 worth of food! For more than 20 years, the month of May has been HUMC's food pantry collection month for HCS. Please complete your donation amount by clicking the button below (be sure to select “HCS Food Pantry” as the fund). You can also drop your cash or check in the Narthex donation box with “HCS Food Pantry” noted in the memo line.

Diaper Drive! Since diapers cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps), they are in great demand at the food pantry! Please donate Adult and Children’s Diapers - sizes Newborn, 5 & 6. You can drop off your donations in the boxes in the Narthex. Thank you for helping our neighbors in their time of need!

HCS Family Services is happy to announce they will be moving into a new location in early summer at 22 North Elm Street, Hinsdale (the old Humane Society Building)! Watch for their Grand Opening in September!
