Loving Others through Missions

A commitment to helping others in need in our community, our nation, and around the world is a cornerstone of HUMC’s philosophy “Love In Action”. We are an active community of faith in mission, with opportunities available to people of all ages, interests, and abilities to make a difference in the lives of others. From helping the homeless to people facing natural disasters, HUMC offers many opportunities to serve. Everyone is invited to be part of the team that does God’s work in the world.

Bridge Communities

Bridge Communities is committed to transforming the lives of homeless families through partnering with community groups to provide transitional housing and mentoring to empower families focused on moving towards a goal of self-sufficiency. Hinsdale UMC sponsors and mentors a local homeless family for a two-year period, providing housing, material needs, life-skills training, and moral support.

DuPage Pads

The mission of DuPage Pads (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) is to end homelessness in DuPage County. It provides year-round programs to feed and shelter individuals and families who are homeless, as well as to connect them to case management and other support services. HUMC supports DuPage PADS through donations and assisting with meal distribution on a monthly basis.

Ministry Partner: Olivet UMC

A longstanding HUMC partner in ministry is Olivet UMC. Together we join efforts to help feed and clothe the community, provide back to school supplies, and backpacks to kids and more. We are grateful for this ministry partnership and our coming together for combined worship services and ministry events.

UMCOR Disaster Relief

HUMC supports the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) by soliciting voluntary donations at times of crisis.  UMCOR responds to natural or civil disasters that are interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on its own.  UMCOR’s work on behalf of United Methodists is global and includes countries in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.  UMCOR also serves in long-term disaster recovery in the US.

Supporting Local Families & Schools

Each year, HUMC collects school supplies, backpacks, and books for families in the Olivet community. Our goal is to remove financial burdens some families face with the cost of school supplies.

Stephen Ministry

One-to-One, Christ-centered care is provided by lay ministers for those that are experiencing a difficult time in their lives such as loneliness, terminal illness, divorce, bereavement, relocation, family crisis, aging, etc.  A Stephen Minister has received over 50 hours of training and is committed to walking the journey with another, assuring the support of Christian love, and careful listening along the way. Confidentiality is a priority. Contact Jill Hinrichs for more information on Stephen Ministers at HUMC.

Faith in Action

We believe love in action can change the world. The HUMC United Women in Faith are involved in many mission projects across our community such as Gift Cards for those in need, Love Purses, and various fund raising projects to help support mission efforts of HUMC.
