youth ministry

Hinsdale UMC Youth Ministry provides many opportunities for young people to participate in the life of the Church. Youth serve as liturgists, greeters, ushers, nursery assistants, children’s Sunday school class assistants, AV ministry assistants, Praise Band members, Chancel Choir members, and instrumental & vocal soloists.

In addition, we host youth events at least once a month to facilitate growing together in faith, fellowship, and fun. Our youth groups participate in mission and service opportunities throughout the year, as well as summer mission work trips. Youth also enjoy serving as volunteers during our summer Vacation Bible School program.

At Hinsdale UMC, we are committed to providing a caring and secure environment for our children and youth during all activities. Our program follows the requirements set forth in Safe Sanctuaries Policy.

youth sunday school

All 6th to 12th graders are welcome to the Youth Room on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Exciting and relevant topics will include: Why are Christians so fake? Why is church so boring? What if God’s plan for me stinks? Is believing in God lame? Why should I even trust God? Come share your perspectives on these interesting questions and share the questions that are important to you. We’ll have doughnuts and juice to share. Please contact Rev. Jon McCoy for more information.

For questions regarding Youth Group or youth events at Hinsdale UMC, please contact the church office.

confirmation

Our next Confirmation class will meet Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. beginning in the Spring of 2020 with completion and Confirmation Celebration on Pentecost Sunday. This class is open to youth in 7th and 8th grade who are interested in learning more about the Christian faith.

The Hinsdale UMC Confirmation Program supports our 7th and 8th grade students in their decision to become members of this congregation. Confirmation classes explore the foundations of our faith through the lens of United Methodist history and heritage while comparing and contrasting our beliefs and practices to those of other world religions.

Confirmation is a big step in the journey of these young people, during which they openly profess their faith in Christ, commit to being responsible disciples, and become recognized as adult members of the church. To support our youth during this journey, each Confirmand is paired with an adult mentor who together meet regularly throughout the year. This year we will not only have adult confirmation mentors, we will also have junior confirmation mentors. (High school students who have completed confirmation will be invited to share their stories of their faith journey with younger peers.)

We are blessed by and thankful for each confirmation class!
