welcome to children's ministries

HUMC embraces families and provides many options in order to make the church going experience a positive one for both parents and children. We are committed to providing a caring and secure environment for children and youth. Our program follows the requirements set forth in our Safe Sanctuary Policy.

Due to the pandemic, our in-person Children's Ministries activities have been paused. All children up to 5th Grade are invited to Children's Sunday School via Zoom every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. This season we are focusing on the Deep Blue Kids curriculum. Join us for lessons, stories, games, crafts, sharing, and more! Contact Jennifer Austgen for Zoom link details.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!

We look forward to returning to in-person worship with you as soon as it is safe to do so. Here are some of the things you can expect when we are together again in the church building:

Near the beginning of the worship service, children are invited to come to the front of the sanctuary for a lesson designed especially for them. Following the lesson, children are escorted by members of the Children’s Ministry Team to the classrooms in the education wing to participate in age-appropriate activities related to the theme of the worship service. Children are always welcome to remain in the sanctuary during the worship services. Child-friendly worship resources (such as stickers, crayons, Bible games and stories) are available in the Welcome Center to keep children engaged during services in the sanctuary.

In addition to the worship services, Sunday school classes are available for children of all ages (while parents are in Adult Sunday School classes, attending meetings, or just need time to relax and have a cup of coffee with a friend). Sunday School classes are taught by an amazing group of talented people who have been called to teach the stories of the Bible, strengthen children’s relationship with God, and deepen children’s understanding of their faith. For those that would like a different option during worship we offer the following:

  • For infants through age three, we have nursery services available. Nursery services are available September through May from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. During the Summer months of June, July, and August from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Sunday School provides Christian education for children from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • Our Children Ministry program is also offered to children in Preschool through 5th grade during the 8:30 a.m. worship service and after children time during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

Please register your child for our Children Ministry program by completing this Children Ministry Registration Form and returning it to Jennifer Austgen, Director of Children Ministries, via email or in the church office.

If you have any questions about Hinsdale UMC’s Children’s Ministries, please contact Jennifer Austgen.

We look forward to returning to in-person worship with you as soon as it is safe to do so. Here are some of the things you can expect when we are together again in the church building:

We invite you to come and experience all that our ministry to children has to offer. We offer fun and exciting ways for children to grow in their relationship to God, one another, and the world. We are committed to providing a caring and secure environment for our children and youth during all activities. Our program follows the requirements set forth in Safe Sanctuaries policy. Children in preschool to 5th grade are invited to participate in Children Ministry program during the 8:30 a.m. service or immediately after the children’s sermon at the 10:30 a.m. service.

On Sunday mornings (from September to May) at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. your children of all ages are welcome to join us for Sunday School while you are in adult Sunday School classes, meetings, or if you just need time to relax and have a cup of coffee with a friend. At this time we will have fun, meaningful activities to help the children explore the nature of God.

Our Sunday School theme for the year is: Communities That Welcome. It is part of the Deep Blue Kids series on “Loving God & Loving Others.” There are games, crafts, stories, videos, and so much more. Some of the topics include: We Are One, Communities Accept, Welcoming Others, Communities Forgive, and Children Contribute. There is even an app that can be downloaded to devices that have the games and stories so that kids can follow along during the week.

Please register your child for Sunday School by completing the Children Ministry Registration Form and returning it to Jennifer Austgen, Director of Children’s Ministries, via email or in the church office.

COMMUNION SUNDAYS

Children will be led back into the worship service by their teachers to take part in communion and return to their parents for the remainder of the service. Communion Sundays are the first Sunday of the month.

preschool through 1st grade

The preschool through 1st grade class use Deep Blue curriculum. This curriculum uses stories, projects, crafts, games and discussion to help build the students’ knowledge of their faith.

2ND GRADE THROUGH 5TH GRADE

Our 2nd to 5th grade students also enjoy Deep Blue curriculum. This curriculum involves six different stations per unit including art, cooking, science, music, story, and games. Each week the children will experience a different station. Every unit focuses on one story from the Bible which the students will study for six weeks. This curriculum allows the children to develop a deeper understanding of the stories from the Bible. Each station builds on the previous week’s lesson and delves a little deeper into the story for that unit. This is a fun hands-on learning experience for the children that is sure to strengthen their faith.
