Our book is “The Sandcastle Girls”, by Chris Bohjalian. American Elizabeth Endicott arrives in Syria in 1915 to aid refugees of the Armenian Genocide. She meets Amen, an Armenian engineer who has lost his wife and daughter. Their American granddaughter Laura embarks on a journey through her family’s history and uncovers a story of love, loss, and a wrenching secret. The author is the grandson of survivors of the genocide and has extensively researched this period. The book is available in hardcover, paperback, Kindle, Nook and at many public libraries.
