Fireside Readers Book Discussion
The Fireside Readers is an informal book discussion group that welcomes all men and women who enjoy reading and stimulating discussion. We meet about once a month from September to May in the Fireside Room at 6:30 p.m. for dessert and coffee, and discussion at 7:00 p.m.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, February 25 in the Fireside Room at 6:30 p.m. for dessert and coffee and discussion at 7:00 p.m. Our book is “City of Scoundrels: 12 Days of Disaster That Gave Birth to Modern Chicago” by Gary Krist. In 1919, Chicago was planning to transform itself into a modern metropolis. But a series of events that occurred over 12 days threatened that plan. An aviation disaster, a transit strike, a race riot, and a child’s murder threw the city into chaos. The book is available in hardback, paperback, Nook, Kindle, audio, and at many local public libraries. Please contact Mary Ann Darnaby if you have any questions.

Knit or Knot
The Knit or Knot Ministry meets the third Wednesday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room. During a time of fellowship, shawls, pillows, sweaters and blankets are created to comfort those in need and to celebrate life’s joys. Each piece becomes an expression of love – and the loving care of God who works through the crafters. As each piece of work reaches completion, it is passed around the circle and blessed by each crafter’s hands. Pictured are members donating hand-tied pillows for use at Hinsdale’s Wellness House.
Men’s Group Lunch and Discussion
The Men’s Group meets in the Fireside Room the first Friday of each month at 12:00 Noon. Bring a sack lunch and join in the lively conversation and fellowship. Current events, community news, joys and concerns are discussed. New members always welcome!
The mission of Stepping Stones is to support widows and widowers in a Christian social environment. All widows and widowers are welcome. Join us on second Tuesday of each month in Fellowship Hall for our gathering. Please contact the church office with questions.
