Dr. H.D. Mitchell

How often have we heard that while being kept waiting on the phone line? At Hinsdale United Methodist Church, we mean it. Interested in a pastoral call or visit? Then you are invited to contact either Dr. Jon McCoy, Sr. Pastor, or Dr. H.D. Mitchell, Minister of Pastoral Care.

Pastor Mitchell comes to us in retirement after 37 years of serving United Methodist churches in Northern Illinois and Iowa. In addition to being an ordained elder, he is particularly well suited to excel in the role of Pastoral Care.

In seminary he was fortunate to learn pastoral psychology from Dr. Carol Wise, a pioneer in the field. In addition, later he took Clinical Pastoral Education at Iowa Methodist Hospital, followed by a year-long Pastoral Care Specialist program through the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center. While in Iowa he was part of a pastoral care team for residents of the state prison for women, and led grief recovery groups there. Presently he goes once a month to the McHenry County Detention Center in Woodstock to help provide a caring presence to undocumented immigrant prisoners awaiting deportation.

Pastor Mitchell considers the art of listening to be an important part of ministry, and he looks forward to being with us on a regular basis and serving on our staff.

You can also contact Mrs. Cheryl Huetson, Administrative Assistant, to request a pastoral visit.
