Rev. Daniel Cochran is the Associate Pastor of Family and Youth Ministries at Hinsdale UMC. Daniel’s ministry focuses on offering opportunities for fellowship as well as spiritual and educational formation for young adults and parents of school-aged children. He seeks to help the local church provide parents with a place to explore and grow in their faith as well as with the resources to help them share this faith with their children. He believes firmly in the scriptural vision of the church as a new family whose members are united together in the body of Christ and who are tasked with sharing the radical love and hospitality of God with the world around us.
Daniel was born in California, raised in Rhode Island, and has served as a worship assistant and Bible study leader for churches in New York, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, and Illinois. During seminary he spent a summer as a hospital chaplain in the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit of Beverley Hospital in Massachusetts. His wife Lauren, whom he met in seminary, is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA). She currently serves Community Presbyterian Church in nearby Clarendon Hills. They have two children, Avanelle and Chesley.
Daniel earned a BA in Religious Studies from the University of Rochester before attending seminary at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. After earning his M.Div., Daniel continued his studies in the history of religion at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently preparing to defend his Ph.D. dissertation, which explores how early Christian buildings helped unify Christian communities amidst the religious landscape of the Roman Empire. Daniel brings together his passion for art history and his vocation through adult education classes in which he uses Christian art to teach about our faith, theology, and the Bible. He also leads guided trips to Italy where participants explore the history of Christianity. To learn more about his adult education workshops and international trips, visit ExploreChristianArt.com.
Daniel is also an avid fly fisherman and downhill skier. Ask him about trout fishing, challenge him to a game of euchre, mention the Patriots or Red Sox, or invite him for a good cup of coffee…and you’ve got yourself a new friend!
